(Jakarta, July 29, 2020) - Today, Sony is launching the newest, long-awaited product – awaitingmirrorlesscameraseriesfull-frameAlpha 7S, at Alpha 7S III

Equipped with the latest 12.1MP (more or less, effective) full-frame back-illuminated image sensor with very high sensitivity and 15+ stop wide dynamic range. The Alpha 7S III boasts a number of impressive video recording capabilities, including 4K 120p

A Solution For Professional Video Workflows

The Alpha 7S III camera offers 4K in-camera recording at up to 120 frames per second, 10-bit depth and 4:2:2 colour sampling, resulting in stunning videos. This new camera also offers a more flexible and efficient post-production workflow with advanced movie recording modes, such as All-Intrai and MPEG-H HEVC / H.265 coding (XAVC HS™)ii. The Alpha 7S III makes it easy to integrate video recording with other professional camcorders while providing three gamut settings, namely S-Gamut, S-Gamut3, and S-Gamut3. With Cine, users are able to easily match footage on the Alpha 7S III with footage captured using a professional camcorder, effectively simplifying multi-camera post-production workflows. In addition to the S-Log3 gamma curve, this camera also supports HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) image profiles with minimum post-production. The Alpha 7S III camera also enablesiii output of up to 4K 60p 16-bit RAW to an external recorder via a HDMI Type-Aiv connector, providing added post-production flexibility.

Improved Image Quality

The new CMOS image sensor and BIONZ XR™ image-processing engine built into the Alpha 7S III offer the legendary S series sensitivity with significant colour reproduction and texture rendering for improved overall image quality. The base ISO has been lowered to 80, resulting in a normal range of 80-102,400 (expandable to 80-409, 600 for video and 40-409, 600 for stills) to provide a more flexible ISO range, plus a wide dynamic range with low noise for all settings. This gives the user an image quality improvement of up to approximately 1 stop noise reduction in the mid and high sensitivity ranges.

With the Alpha 7S III, colours and textures from leaves, human skin and other objects are reproduced ideally and consistently regardless of the light source. In addition, gradient rendering has been enhanced to make skin tones look more attractive and highlight roll-off in images. This feature also enhances AWB (Auto White Balance) performance with the new “Visible light + IR Sensor”, helping to achieve more precise point calibration under artificial lighting, including fluorescent and LED light.

Versatile Operability

Advanced Auto Focus Performance for Hybrid Feature Use

For the first time in an Alpha 7S series camera, the Alpha 7S III offers Fast Hybrid AF by combining phase-detection and contrast-detection AF, giving it the ability to track subjects over a wide area with exceptional speed, precision and smoothness, even when used at narrow depths of field. Smooth focus results can now be achieved with Sony E-mount lenses.

In dynamic motion scenes, Real-time tracking features and Real-time Eye AF are available to maintain constant focus on the targeted subject. Sony's advanced Real-time Eye AF improves detection performance by 30% over previous systems, thanks to a new image-processing engine. This new feature ensures accurate and reliable detection, even when the subject looks away. Real-time tracking starts by simply touching the subject on the screen. Simultaneously, Real-time Eye AF will activate when the subject's eye are detected.

Flexible Auto Focus Setting for Movie Shooting Mode

Based on user feedback, this new camera includes several AF features for professional users, including AF Transition Speed

Amazing Photography

The Alpha 7S III carries a fast Hybrid AF system with 759 phase-detection AF points, covering 92% of the image sensor. The camera can also achieve high AF fidelity for accurate and reliable focus in up to EV-6 lightvii, where subjects are difficult to see clearly, even with the naked eye. Additionally, users can shoot over 1000 uncompressed RAW images continuously at up to 10fps or up to 8fps in live view mode, either mechanically or electronically.

The Alpha 7S III is the world's first camera to feature a 9.44 million-dot (approx.), 0.64-type Quad-XGA electronic viewfinder with an enhanced, high-definition OLED display. The Alpha 7S III’s Viewfinder offers a magnification viii of 0.90x, a diagonal field of view of 41 ° and an eyepoint as high as 25mm for clear viewing angles and low distortion, as well as dust, fog and moisture resistance, high responsiveness and a variety of modes to suit different subjects. Every aspect of the Alpha 7S III's viewfinder has been designed and refined for professional workflows.

For the first time in Sony's digital camera line-up, the Alpha 7S III includes HEIF (High Efficiency Image File Format) which enables smooth 10-bit grading and advanced compression technology to maintain image quality while significantly reducing file sizes and saving storage space. HEIF stills taken in this mode can be played back on a compatible Sony HDR (HLG) HDR TV via the Alpha 7S III's direct HDMI Type-A connection, providing aix true dynamic range.
