Ashima spends much of her field time in remote parts of India exploring the relationship of communities with their environment and education structures provided. Ashima is a freelance photographer and filmmaker, represented by National Geographic Image Collection and the former photo editor for National Geographic Traveller India. In 2017, Time included her on a list of 34 women photographers from around the world to follow. Over the span of 20 years, she has worked on a diverse range of subjects: from wading through mudflats to shoot flamingos for her award-winning Discovery Channel documentary, climbing sail masts mid-sea for National Geographic Traveller, and driving vintage cars across India for Cartier. She has twice been nominated for a Green Oscar; her work has been published in National Geographic Traveller India, GEO France, ProPublica, Foreign Policy, Die Ziet, Vanity Fair; and been part of Disney’s photography campaign exhibited at the United Nation’s Headquarters.
