The Android TV is not being detected as a Chromecast built-in (Google Cast) device or the Android TV is detected but the connection fails.

Check the steps below if any of the following occurs:

  • The Android TV is not being detected as a Chromecast built-in (Google Cast) device. 
  • The Cast icon is available on the mobile device and the TV model is detected but the error message There was a problem connecting to XXX-XXXXX (Model name) appears and the connection fails.

Check the steps at the bottom of this article if The Cast icon is not displayed on the mobile device, or even if it is displayed, Cast does not work.

NOTE: Each of these steps represents a possible solution to this issue. Check if the Chromecast built-in (Google Cast) function is working after completing each step.

  • Make sure that your device and the TV are connected to the same home network.
  • From My Apps in the Google Play Store app, update all of the apps installed in the TV to the latest version.

  • Make sure that your device and the TV have the correct time settings.

    How to set a method for acquiring the time:

    If the BRAVIA TV is connected to a network:

    1. Press the HOME button on the remote control.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Select Date & time in the SYSTEM PREFERENCES category.
    4. For models released in 2017 or later:
      1. Select Automatic date & time.
      2. Select Use network time.
      For models released in 2016 or before:
      1. Set Automatic date & time to On.
      2. Set Time synchronization to Use network-provided time.

    If the BRAVIA TV is not connected to a network:

    1. Press the HOME button on the remote.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Select Date & time in the SYSTEM PREFERENCES category.
    4. Set Automatic date & time to Off.
    5. Manually adjust the Time and Date.

If the Cast icon is not displayed on the mobile device or the Cast does not work when the Cast icon is pressed, even when the device and the TV are connected to the same network, try the following.

  1. Terminate the Chromecast-enabled (Google Cast-enabled) app on the mobile device, and restart it.

    NOTE: For details on how to terminate and restart apps, refer to the instructions manual, support website, etc. for your mobile device.

  2. Restart the wireless router. (Unplug the router, and wait approximately one minute before reconnecting the power.)
  3. Temporarily turn off the mobile device, and wait approximately one minute before turning it back on.
  4. Reset the TV.
