When using AirPlay to play Apple Music on a BRAVIA TV with an audio system connected through HDMI3 (ARC), volume controls on the Apple device may be unavailable. This FAQ explains why this happens and how to adjust the volume.

Why can’t I adjust the volume of Apple Music from my Apple device?

When an audio system is connected to your BRAVIA TV using the HDMI3 (ARC) port, the Apple Music app disables volume control on the Apple device. This includes the volume slider in the Apple Music app and the physical volume buttons on the device.

    What causes this behavior?

This behavior is part of the Apple Music app design. When audio is routed through a TV that is connected to an external audio system via HDMI3 (ARC), Apple Music transfers volume control to the TV instead of the Apple device.

Is this a problem with my BRAVIA TV?

No. This is expected behavior of the BRAVIA TV or the Apple device. The TV is working as designed with the Apple Music app when used with HDMI3 (ARC).

How can I adjust the volume when playing Apple Music?

Use the TV remote control to adjust the volume while Apple Music is playing through AirPlay. Volume control from the Apple device is not available in this setup.
