What should I do if an application in Windows 2000 stops responding?
You may refer to the following procedure to resolve the symptom:
--Procedure--
1) Press [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Delete] key simultaneously to display the [Windows Security] dialog box.
2) Click the [Task Manager] button.
3) The running applications are displayed under [Task] in the [Application] tab. Click the application (task) that shows [Not Responding] in the [Status] category, and then click the [End Task] button.
In most cases, you will be able to force only that application to end without affecting the other applications or the whole system itself in Windows 2000, even if there are some other applications that have stopped responding.
There are also times where the system itself gets affected and you are required to force the shutdown of the PC as in the case of Windows 98. But the frequency of such an occurance is low. In this case, the recovery of the HD is conducted automatically by the NTFS function.
