Before you start:
If the screen goes black, or only the Info banner is displayed, please refer to the No picture or only Info banner is displayed when turning on the TV article.
(Applicable to W8K, X74K, X75K, W8L, X64L, X70L, X74L, X75L, X77L series.)
Try resetting, or updating the TV, etc., according to the troubleshooting steps listed in the Benefits of restarting the Google TV™ or Android TV™ and updating the software article.
Try a solution based on the issue you are experiencing.
If your TV screen is black / blank, try the following steps to recover the TV:
Power Cycle (All TVs)
- Unplug the TV power cord for 30 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back in.

Forced factory data reset (Android/Google TVs)
IMPORTANT: Keep in mind that a factory reset erases your current settings and requires you to set up the TV again.
If you can’t access the settings with the remote, use the buttons on the TV to perform a manual factory reset.
Follow the instructions below according to the number of buttons on your TV:
One button
- Unplug the TV.
- Press and hold the Power button (on the TV), and while holding the button down, plug the TV back in.
- Continue pressing the Power button until a white LED light appears near the front Sony logo (approximately 10-30 seconds), then release the button.
- The TV will restart twice.
- Note: If the TV doesn't automatically turn back on, press the Power button to turn it on manually.
- Once the Welcome setup screen appears, perform the setup.
- Note: If the Welcome setup screen doesn't appear, unplug the AC power cord and plug it back in.
- After the factory reset process is complete, the TV will start the initial setup.
Three buttons
- Unplug the TV.
- Press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons (on the TV), and while holding the buttons, plug the TV back in.
- Hold the buttons until a green LED light appears near the front Sony logo (approximately 10-30 seconds), then release the buttons.
- Note: If the white LED light doesn't turn green within 30 seconds, restart from Step 1.
- The TV will restart twice, and the Welcome screen will appear.
- After the factory reset process is complete, the TV will start the initial setup.
More than three buttons
Part 1: Using the TV buttons
- Unplug the TV.
- Press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons (on the TV), and while holding the buttons, plug the TV back in.
- Hold the buttons until a green LED light appears near the front Sony logo (approximately 10-30 seconds).
- The TV will restart twice, and the Welcome screen will appear.
- Note: If the Welcome screen doesn't appear, restart from Step 1.
Part 2: Using the Settings menu
- After the initial setup, go to Home → Settings → Storage & reset → Factory data reset → Erase everything → Yes.
- The TV will perform a factory data reset again. Once it's complete, the TV will start the initial setup.
- Note: Take your time when setting your TV preferences.

- Make sure that the power cord and AC adaptor are not disconnected or loose.
- Press the power switch of the TV to see if the TV turns on.
- Reset the TV. For how to reset, refer to the following FAQs.
The issue might be caused by connected devices. follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue
- Turn off the TV.
- Disconnect all external devices (e.g.: external USB hard disk drive, and HDMI connection).
- Turn on the TV without connecting external devices.
- Press Home / Menu button to check if the menu option is visible or not.
- If Home screen is visible than check external device connectivity for an issue.

After trying each of these steps, check your streaming app for resolution.
- Power reset the Android TV/Google TV.
- To perform a power reset or restart:
- Restart the TV by selecting the option depending on your TV:
- Restart the TV with the supplied remote control:
- Press and hold the POWER button until Power off appears on the screen.
- Press and hold the POWER button until a menu appears → select Restart.
- Restart the TV using the menu:
- On the supplied remote, press the Quick Settings
button, then select Settings → System → Restart → Restart. - On the supplied remote, press the press HOME button, then select Settings → About → Restart → Restart.
- On the supplied remote, press the press HOME button, then select Settings → Device Preferences → About → Restart → Restart.

Install all pending updates from the Google Play™ Store.
- On the supplied remote control, press the HOME button.
- On the HOME menu, scroll to Apps and select Google Play Store.
- A Google™ account is required to access the Google Play Store for the first time. Create an account if needed.
- Go to My Apps and install all pending updates.
- After all the Apps are updated, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds to reboot the TV, then test any streaming apps.

Clear your streaming app's data and cache.
- Press the HOME button.
- Select Settings.
- The following steps depend on your TV:
- Select Apps → See all apps.
- Select Apps.
- Select the appropriate application.
- Select Clear data.
- Select OK.
- Select Clear cache.
- Select OK.

If the issue still occurs, perform a factory data reset.
Note: Completing a factory data reset will remove all TV customer settings, including apps, channels, and wireless network settings.

A Presence Sensor reduces power consumption by automatically turning the picture off and switching the TV to standby mode when no viewer is detected. If you do not need this function, turn it off.
Notes:
- If the screen stays black when you approach the TV or turn it off and on, this solution does not apply.
- Google TVs and Android TVs do not have this function.
- Using the remote control to turn off the Presence Sensor below is an example. For specific information on how to turn off the Presence Sensor on your model TV, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product.
- Turn off the Presence Sensor.
- On the remote control, press the HOME button.
- Select Preferences.
- Select Eco.
- Select Presence Sensor.
- Select OFF.
- Reset the TV. For how to reset, refer to the How to perform a power reset on a Sony television article.
